As part of Dr. Pratibha Eastwood’s continuing journey as a practicing therapist, she has been studying Somatic Experiencing® with Dr. Peter Levine and Steven Hoskinson. Somatic Experiencing® is a methodology designed to resolve trauma symptoms and relieve chronic stress. It was developed by Dr. Levine after forty years of research and development. Somatic Experiencing® has been successfully used throughout the world and has helped to heal combat veterans, rape survivors, chronic pain sufferers and people suffering from auto accidents and post surgical trauma.
Dr. Eastwood has studied with Steven Hoskinson. Steven has trained many hundreds of professionals worldwide. He is trained in mind-body traditions, clinical psychology, theology, aikido, has done research in Creativity and Myth, and has a long-standing practice of mindfulness meditation. Combining the best of these traditions in a unique approach, he has become known for his personal integration and embodiment of the principles he teaches. (From Steven Hoskinsons website)
Somatic Experiencing® has been very effective in helping people overcome the effects of trauma and to relieve chronic stress. It helps return a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals. According to Stevem Hoskinson, nervous system phases such as fight (aggression), flight (fear), and freeze (numbness and dissociation) were meant to be expressed briefly. They have now become exaggerated and chronic in our current human civilization and have resulted in increased polarization, dehumanization, and conflict around the globe.
